Marc Marquez alternates training sessions on the track and in the gym, but also attends sporting events. Last weekend he was in the stands to watch the football match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona and every day he watches from home the famous competition in the Dakar desert, where many friends and compatriots participate, despite a thousand misadventures. As in the case of the colleague Joan Barreda who had to retire due to a serious injury.

By participating in a television program broadcast on Teledeporte, the eight-time champion of MotoGP rejected the hypothesis of his participation in the Dakar on two wheels. After the various injuries and the four operations on his right arm, it’s better to tread lightly when it comes to taking risks. Especially in a discipline that is new to him and requires courage and a good dose of luck: “In the Dakar it’s not the fastest who wins, but who prepares better and is lucky“.

For Marc Marquez there is still time before getting back on track. The next test is scheduled for February 10-12 in Malaysia, where the preseason that began last November 8 in Valencia will continue. But on the Sepang circuit we will see the first big news from all the manufacturers, with the Honda which is called to take a clear step forward after the disappointing 2022 season. Even the multiple champion from Cervera is looking for a personal redemption after three difficult years: “It’s a new challenge, because until 2020 my career was all roses. Now I’ve experienced the other side of the coin, the falls… It’s not easy, because the injury was hard“.

His last operation dates back to June 2, when he flew to the USA for his fourth surgery at the Mayo Clinic, forcing him to stay out of racing for three months. Returning for the IRTA test at Misano, he resumed participating in the GPs in nearby Aragon, to regain confidence with the bike and above all prepare for 2023, collecting valuable data for the engineers. And also by collecting one pole position at Motegi it’s a podium in Australia which bode well.

Much will depend on the work done by HRC during these weeks of hiatus: “I am obliged to prepare to the top of my ability, to do my best to go to war – added Marc Marquez -. We have a lot of work to do, the Valencia tests didn’t go as we expected. Honda is the only brand capable of reacting to such a situation“.
