It often happens that you ask to borrow or lend your car to friends, relatives or simply acquaintances.
Before lending a vehicle, however, it is always good to find out what the consequences may be, what the consequences are rights and duties of the driver and the vehicle owner.
There are many motorists in the world who commit offenses which they then pay dearly for, simply because they do not know the rules of the road. Unfortunately ignorance or misinformation is not allowedso the first rule is to inform yourself properly, about everything.

The fact, what happened to a Romanian citizen
For example, few people know that driving around in a car they don’t own, therefore registered to another person, for more than a month can have serious consequences in the event of checks.
Something similar happened to a Romanian who was stopped in the parking lot of a supermarket while on board a Renault Megane. The man was checked by the traffic police because they were suspicious of the fact that he was carrying a mattress on the vehicle.
During the checks, the police discovered that the car wasn’t even registered to him and that the man was also without a license. The whole thing cost him €5,000.
What you must do before you lend or borrow a car
It agrees that as much as it may be a polite, kind, civil gesture, before lending the car to anyone, if you don’t want to risk fines of up to €700 with the seizure of the car registration certificate, it is better to find out how to behave in order to respect the law.
For example, you need to know that according to article 1803 of the civil code, if you lend an asset for a long period, you must sign a loan for use contract or notify the motorisation the change because on the vehicle registration document the driver’s data must be reported.
The police forces can check and issue fines by confiscating the vehicle’s registration certificate if the modification to the registration document has not been carried out.
The car owner, before lending the vehicle to a family member or friends or acquaintances can expect the new driver to sign an agreement to prevent problems of any kind in the event of damage to third parties. However, the agreement does not relieve him of any compensation.
