Richard Hammond Bought Subaru Impreza WRX STI From “A Scandi Flick”

The fifth season of The Grand Tour is currently underway. As a season opener in September, the acclaimed trio released “A Scandi Flick”, which is an adventure through the icy wastes of the Scandinavian Arctic Circle.

While among the biggest news about filming that first episode was James May’s crash in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII – in which the car was written off and May suffered a broken rib – two other cars actually made it home. If you’re interested in buying one, Jeremy Clarkson’s Audi RS4 B7 isn’t for sale.

Richard Hammond’s 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX STI V-Limited, on the other hand, has been purchased by none other than Hammond himself.

Hammond revealed it in Drivetribe video at the top of this page. Better still, it was also revealed that the car would be restored. Luckily, Hammond owns a classic car restoration shop called Smallest Teethperfect for this task.

As expected, the Blobeye WRX STI suffered damage at Hammond’s hands, though not as extensively as one might expect. There was a large dent on the hood, along with some bumper damage and a few pieces that fell off at the time Grand Tour are shooting. The headlights also need restoration, along with some rust that needs maintenance.

Thankfully, the Martini Racing (or simply Martin) wrap will be removed by The Smallest Cog, which will return this Impreza WRX STI back to its original Subaru Blue paint job.

As this was a sample of the original blue JDM imported from Japan to the UK, the plan was to return it to its original factory shape. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks or months, but if you’re a fan of this rally racing icon, you know that a special car is coming out of this project.
