2024 Subaru Impreza Debuts With Sporty RS Trim Making 182 HP

The 2024 Subaru Impreza marks the arrival of the brand’s sixth-generation compact model. It debuted at this year’s LA Auto Show, which is appropriate because of its first-gen premiere at the 1992 event.

The 2024 Impreza comes in three trims: Base, Sport and RS. The Base and Sport use a boxer 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 152 horsepower (113 kilowatts) and 145 pound-feet (197 Newton-meters) of torque. The RS gets a 2.5-liter four-pot boxer engine that produces 182 hp (136 kW) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm).

All trims are equipped with a CVT. Versions in the Sport and RS classes have an 8-speed simulated mode with pre-set ratios and paddle shifters behind the wheel. The Impreza continues to come standard with all-wheel drive. Subaru says the application of this technology has a faster response time. This system also has a torque vector.

The sixth generation Impreza is available exclusively as a five-door hatchback, while the fifth generation is also available as a four-door sedan. The exterior styling is an evolution of the current look. The grille is slightly larger, and the headlights have a sharper shape. Revisions at the rear are more obvious with the fork-shaped taillights and exposed exhaust pipe.

Inside, there are more significant changes. The new Impreza is available with an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen. It supports the wireless versions of Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Like the Outback and Legacy, the lower trim comes with dual 7.0-inch displays.

For an even more exhilarating driving experience, the 2024 Impreza gets a rack-mounted version of the WRX’s twin-pinion electronic power steering. Subaru says this results in better response and a more direct feeling when turning the wheel.

Impreza is getting an improved version of the brand’s EyeSight driver-assist technology. It has a wider field of view and can identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections. Vehicles that have blind-spot detection with lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert get an automatic emergency steering system.

The RS is a sporty new addition to the Impreza lineup. The name harkens back to the 2.5 RS from ’98. This trim looks more aggressive with dark gray trim on the grille, side sills, mirror caps and 18-inch wheels. LED headlights and fog lights are standard for this class. Inside, the seats are upholstered in black cloth with red bolsters. The trim is a mix of gunmetal gray and simulated carbon fiber elements.
