BMW XM Red Label Is The “Preliminary Entry” For The 2023 Pikes Peak Hill Climb

The 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb entry list is now available, and there are surprises in store. Among the various racing cars, the BMW XM Label Red was included in the line-up of machines taking part in the event. However, contacted BMW for more details, and the automaker said it hasn’t made a final decision about competing on hill climbs.

“In anticipation of the approaching deadline to register for Pikes Peak 2023, BMW submitted a preliminary entry. However, a final decision on our participation has not been made at this time. We will keep you posted,” a BMW spokesperson was told.

Label Red will take the already performance-focused XM and will make it more powerful. The upgraded 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged, hybrid-assisted V8 engine will produce 738 horsepower (550 kilowatts) and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton-meters) of torque, versus 644 hp (480 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) ). ) in standard pitch.

There may be changes to the suspension and brakes in addition to the extra power. Although, BMW has not specified specifically.

The hotter model will also have a more aggressive look that includes red trim on the windows, grille and alloy wheels. There could be more touches of red in the cabin, but no Red Label interior photos are available at this time.

If BMW does compete with XM Label Red at Pikes Peak, it’s unclear if it will be a stock example or if there will be additional tuning for the event. Companies such as Acura and Lamborghini have brought unmodified engines to competition as demonstrations of what these vehicles are capable of.

XM Label Red won’t go on sale until the fall, but the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is taking place on Sunday, June 25. Climbing the mountain fast would give BMW something to promote a performance vehicle with. Currently, the Lamborghini Urus holds the record with a time of 10 minutes 32.064 seconds.

According to leaked info, Label Red will have a starting price of around $185,000. In comparison, standard XM starts at $159,995 after a $995 destination fee.
