Cadillac Escalade-V Owner Has Warranty Voided, Then Reinstated

The Cadillac Escalade-V brings supercharged power to an iconic luxury SUV. To address all the 689 horsepower found under the hood of the Escalade-V, customers can expect to pay at least $150,000, a decent starting price for top-tier service. Unfortunately, the luxury marque fumbles with at least one customer, like Cadillac Society spoke to Caddy owners who refinanced their new 2023 Escalade-V and had their vehicle warranty voided as a result. Fortunately, however, the story has a happy ending.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V buyer tells Cadillac Society that they purchased the high-performance luxury SUV in September 2022 and chose to finance the vehicle through GM Financial. In January 2023, the customer took advantage of the opportunity to refinance the vehicle at a lower interest rate with a different finance company. No transfer of ownership occurred during the refinancing operation.

A little later, customers started having problems with their Escalade-V, as the luxury SUV displayed a “4WD service” message and indicated a loss of power. The customer took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the engine control module (ECU) needed to be reprogrammed. It is then that the dealer notifies the customer that this particular Escalade-V includes a warranty block, and therefore will not be serviced without payment. The customer contacted Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, for guidance, but was faced with radio silence from GM and dealers for more than a week before they were finally contacted and told that the warranty had been voided to not be maintained. As a reminder, the Cadillac Escalade-V currently has a mandatory six-month ownership period. If the owner chooses to sell the vehicle before this six month period is up, the manufacturer will void the warranty. This practice is intended to discourage customers from trying to sell vehicles at inflated prices, and also applies to the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing super sedans.

But given that there was no transfer of ownership in this particular customer’s case, they are extremely disappointed by the news that their Escalade-V warranty has been voided as a result of their decision to refinance.

Finally, Cadillac Society were told by the owner of the Escalade-V that Cadillac was rectifying the situation, with an executive calling the customer to personally apologize. The warranty attached to their Cadillac Escalade-V has been restored, with a trial lasting 10 days, start to finish. Obviously, this situation is a bit frustrating, and hopefully future Escalade-V owners won’t find themselves facing the same problem.

And while this story has a happy ending, we’re assuming that this isn’t the kind of ownership experience worthy of a $150,000 luxury product.
