BMW M’s best-selling car for 2022 is the Electric i4 M50

BMW M celebrates its 50th birthday in 2022. The milestone is marked by a new sales record – 177,257 BMW vehicles were sold during the 2022 financial year, which is an increase of 8.4 percent when compared to the previous year. The US is the BMW M’s best-selling market, while the German domestic market follows suit. The UK is the third market where the BMW M has been selling well.

But perhaps the interesting part is that the top-selling BMW M vehicle in 2022 will be the all-electric BMW i4 M50, which suggests that an all-electric high-performance division isn’t such a bad idea. The exact number of BMW i4 M50s sold was not disclosed.

“For us, this is a clear signal that a unique M feeling has arrived in the world of electric vehicles,” said Timo Resch, Head of Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH.

The BMW i4 M50 isn’t the only M model to be electrified. The standalone BMW XM also debuted last year with a 653-hp M Hybrid drive, while the BMW iX M60 also had a successful launch. Meanwhile, BMW M is expected to introduce the i7 M70 this year.

The BMW M division promises continued attacks in terms of electrified performance models, claiming that “a further transformation towards electric mobility is also mapped out.” An electric M xDrive all-wheel drive system with four electric motors is also available.

Needless to say, BMW M’s sales success in 2022 includes an astounding number of staple names like the M3 and M4, including the M3 Touring. The second-generation M2 also made waves last year with a straight six-speed shift stick, and rear-wheel drive, evoking classic BMW M driving pleasure.

“The new sales record for BMW M Automobiles is based on our successful presence in various vehicle segments,” added Resch. “With our extensive product portfolio, we are also ideally positioned for the future.”

BMW also reminded us that the M3 CS will make its debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. It will also be the competition debut for the BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh race car.
