Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX Confirmed With 335 HP And All-Wheel Drive

Back in October 2022, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles shared the ID teaser. Buzz GTX but without releasing any details. Thankfully, some of the missing pieces of the puzzle are now in place as R&D boss Kai Gruenitz shared some interesting specs. Come later this year, the performance version of the electric minivan will have 250 kilowatts, which produces 335 horsepower. That’s actually more than the GTX ID.4/ID.5’s 295 hp.

Gruenitz did not specify how much the ID torque is. The Buzz GTX will have it, but we’ll remind you that the two high-performance SUVs weigh in at 339 pound-feet (460 Newton-meters). VW R&D head Honcho confirmed the zero-emissions minivan in its sportiest flavor will have dual motors and all-wheel drive. It also gets a special color and unique interior, along with “a few extra features.”

A non-GTX dual-motor model is being considered, according to Gruenitz. In fact, the presentation we mentioned also had a teaser for a long-wheelbase, all-wheel-drive configuration. We’ll remind you the elongated model will be the only one available in the United States at ID. The Buzz will go on sale in 2024. It will have a larger battery pack compared to the standard wheelbase rear-wheel drive model.

Speaking of longer IDs. Buzz, said Gruenitz Car it will be stretched by 250 millimeters (9.8 inches). As a refresher, the standard model already sold in Europe in passenger and cargo configurations measures 4,712 mm (185.5 in). He added it would have a three-row layout with seven seats, “and you can pull everything up from the back.” He went on to mention “it will also have a rotating Captain’s seat.”

A Gruenitz redo of the camper with a California badge is in the works, but won’t be out any sooner than 2025.

VW will expand its electric car portfolio later this year with the ID.7 and GTX ID.3 which will come with the already announced compact car facelift. An Atlas-sized ID.8 is also in the works, as is the flagship Trinity.
