Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept Debut: Dual Motors, Third Row of Seats

It’s been almost three years since rumors of an electric Ram pickup truck first surfaced. Now, those rumors are being brought to life with the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept, debuting to the world at CES 2023 in Las Vegas.

Being a concept vehicle, Ram doesn’t provide details about its powertrain or performance. We can tell you that it uses two electric motors, one driving each axle housed in an electric drive module. These modules are designed to accommodate a variety of motors, with Ram hinting at “high-performance future applications” in its debut announcement. The Revolution also features four-wheel steering with up to 15 degrees of articulation, and its 800-volt DC system can charge up to 350 kilowatts on the fly. Under optimal conditions, the battery pack regains 100-mile range in roughly 10 minutes.

We can also tell you that the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept uses the Stellantis STLA architecture with a body-on-frame construction. It rides on 24-inch wheels with the RAM center caps on, but there’s enough room on the fenders to fit its beefy 35-inch off-road tires. It’s worth noting that RAM was eager to showcase these features, especially the full frame concept. The Chevrolet Silverado EV uses a unibody design.

Speaking of Chevy electric trucks, one might notice the Silverado EV livery in the Revolution’s overall exterior shape. The nose of the truck is slightly smaller, and the cab tilts back where it meets the bed. The Ram EV also features a powerful mid-gate behind the second-row seats, allowing for generous passage to the bed. There’s also a pass-through to the frunk, and with the Ram’s (also powered) multi-function tailgate extended, no less than 18 feet of space are available for hauling long items.

For transporting people, Ram says the Revolution’s configurable interior offers an additional four inches of legroom without changing the size of the bed compared to the current production model. There’s also room behind the second-row seats for a pair of third-row jump seats, affixed to the center door. Using a modular system called Ram Track, the chair and console can easily be repositioned on a flat floor to create a dedicated workspace or add more seating. Mounted above everything is an electro-chromatic glass roof that can be adjusted to let in as little or as much light as you want.

Technology is also a big part of the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept. The large, configurable central infotainment system comprises two displays for a total of 28 inches of space. The steering wheel is foldable and contains capacitive controls, among which are functions for augmented reality head-up displays and advanced AI features. Some of these features include voice control to command virtual assistants, intelligent trip planning, and special cabin modes that automatically change seat position, lighting, sound, and other functions with the push of a button.

Digital side mirrors replace the larger unit, and when backing up, the Ram Revolution can provide a panoramic rear view by nesting multiple cameras positioned around the truck. There is also a shadow mode which allows the truck to slowly follow the driver walk in front of him. Thus, Ram Revolution includes an autonomous system with Level 3 capabilities. And when it’s time to charge at home, a small robot called Ram Charger can automatically connect to recharge the battery.

It’s all wrapped up in a design Ram calls “bruitful,” a mix of brutal and beautiful. The tuning fork design theme is found with LED lights on the front as well as on the dashboard. The rear opening tailgate swings out to reveal a B-pillar-less interior. In profile, the Ram Revolution adopts an hourglass shape.

“The Ram revolution represents several important things for the Ram brand,” said Ram CEO Mike Koval. “Of course, it is our new Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept that serves as a roadmap to our electrification future. But Ram Revolution is also our philosophy as we redefine the pickup segment, with announcements and initiatives solid as we begin our electrification journey. journey.

It’s unclear whether Ram Revolution is a production concept or something more abstract. The automaker promises to share more information about the Revolution in the future, with production of the Ram electric truck expected for 2024.
