GM Design Center known for sharing sketches and renderings that don’t have to be production models. His latest idea sparked quite a bit of interest – a sleek, convertible sports car that hasn’t been in the automaker’s portfolio for more than 10 years.
This is of course referring to the Cadillac XLR. The sports coupe based on the Chevrolet Corvette C6 was produced from 2004 to 2009 and was the last open-top Cadillac in the line. However, we highly doubt that this latest rendering will be a direct successor to the model even if it reaches production at all.
The sketch you see at the top of this page was posted by GM Design Center on its official Instagram, made by someone using the handle @BBKIL (we checked and the profile is empty). Social media posts come with the title:

The roadster renders are rendered from a quarter-back angle and use current Cadillac design language, particularly evident in the vertical taillights found on the Lyriq and Celestiq EVs. The rest of this fictional car shows the execution of a sleek design that is pleasing to the eye.
This isn’t the first time the GM Design Center has shared renderings of a Cadillac sports car. One wide-body sketch was shared earlier this year – highlighting the feel of the C8 Corvette.
As mentioned, it’s unlikely this idea will reach production and will be a direct successor to the XLR, especially given Cadillac’s current direction towards electrification. However, Cadillac dealers will appreciate the open-top model, with Cadillac National Dealer Council Chairman David Butler going on record earlier to say that a convertible would be a welcome addition to the lineup.
