Woodcut Donkervoort D8 GTO With Working Butterfly Doors

Donkervoort is a Dutch sports car maker that makes sleek looking sports cars. His two-seater vehicle is all about performance, with the all-slow new D8 GTO. A new video from the Awesome Woodcraft YouTube channel takes advantage of the D8 GTO’s modern styling, turning the car into a small, detailed wooden model.

Woodcuts start life as a few boring blocks, but a few saw cuts then start to take shape. The D8 GTO has a long, ventilated hood between the cab and the front wheels, and that doesn’t include the front overhang in front of the headlights. This helps give the brand its iconic shape. The wood carving is just as detailed, with dozens of tiny vents carved into the hood, but it’s just one of several stylistic details on the model.

Under the hood is a detailed engine bay, which mimics the turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine from Audi cars. The engine produces 400 horsepower (294 kilowatts) and can send the D8 to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 2.7 seconds. It will reach 124 mph (200 kph) in 7.7 seconds. The wooden model isn’t as fast; However, it does feature a working suspension.

Inside, the cabin features two seats, a center console with shifter – the D8 GTO is available with five manual gearboxes or six-speed sequential transmission, steering wheel and a detailed dashboard. Other styling features include rims and tires, exhaust hoods, and the car’s stunning butterfly doors, which can be opened and closed on the model.

The end result is a lacquered wood model of Donkervoort’s new D8 GTO. A touch of red paint accentuates the rear lights and third brake light, while the front lights are silver. It’s a stunning build, with great attention paid to the car’s details, including the busy rear diffuser and stylish front fascia. There’s nothing else that looks like it on the road, and it doesn’t look like it will for a while.
