Provided a bank account can handle it, fueling one’s passion for cars does more than fill a garage. From watches to furniture and everything in between, the sky’s the limit when it comes to outfitting your four-wheeled thing. Scale models are also a good example, and some are more expensive than others. For an avid Ferrari collector, Amalgam is working on a replica that costs about as much as a new BMW M3.
While the idea of spending $73,295 on a Ferrari 250GTO a body replica may seem outrageous to most of us, it is far from a typical scale model. Just as Carozzerie Scaglietti did in the 1960s with what turned out to be an iconic car, the aluminum sheet is hand hammered using a traditional panel beating technique. The body panels are shaped with a hammer over the pennies, as they were done in the old days of car manufacturing.

It’s a faithful interpretation of the real deal because the money in which the body was built was made based on digital scans of some actual Ferrari 250 GTOs. This beautiful raw 1:4 scale model is 1.08 meters (42.5 inches) long and tips the scales at about five kilograms (11 pounds). It is shown here on a walnut frame, but Amalgam can provide any other frame. As an alternative, customers can mount it on the wall.

An aluminum body replica is currently in development and will only be available as a build-to-order product. That makes sense considering it’s a handmade scale model a quarter the size of the original which took so long to complete. Amalgam says the Ferrari 250 GTO is leading the way for up-and-coming body replicas, with the 250 Testa Rossa (also written by Scaglietti) coming next. Subsequently, the 265 GTB and 275 GTB/4 scale models will be added to the portfolio.
Meanwhile, new Ferrari buyers can get their hands on a matching Amalgam replica of the car, made in 1:8 or 1:12 scale. This option is available to customers who purchase a Roma, 812 Superfast, 812 GTS, Portofino M, SF90 Stradale or SF90 Spider.
