McLaren Senna Suffers Extensive Door And Wheel Damage During The Collision

The McLaren Senna isn’t a new supercar, but it’s rare. Production of 500 examples started in 2018, meaning there aren’t many in the world, and recent accidents may further reduce that number. A video from YouTube channel The Hamilton Collection shows the aftermath of Senna’s bad crash, and the diagnosis for his recovery doesn’t look promising.

It’s not clear how the accident occurred, but the McLaren suffered extensive damage to the front door and the driver’s wheel, which took the brunt of the impact. It sounds like the McLaren entered the intersection and was hit by another car that had the negligent driver behind the wheel, but the details are sketchy. According to the video, no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the results look dire.

The accident caused the driver’s curtain airbag to deploy, blowing out the side windows, and shattering the door’s see-through glass panels. The front wheel was bent under the car, likely hiding a fair amount of suspension damage, and there was a lot more kickback along the front bumper. Inside, glass is strewn across the chairs and floor.

The video shows Senna being pulled back to the garage for a more complete damage assessment, and upon further inspection, it’s possible the insurance company may cover the car. There is damage on the McLaren side, which will require extensive repairs, and that’s just what it shows. The car could have suffered damage to the body of the carbon fiber monocoque, which would have derailed any plans to repair it or increase the repair bill to tantalizing levels.

It’s a shame to see the supercar die, but the Hamilton Collection eagerly solicits viewers for ideas on what to do with the car after it. The Senna packs a powerful twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 789 horsepower (580 kilowatts) and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton-meters) of torque. With the damage concentrated to the front of the McLaren, it’s possible the powerful powertrain remains intact and usable.
