To the delight of Corvette fans, Chevy has reopened the order book for the Corvette Z06 2023. Those who missed out on ordering it for the first time can now do so, which will be in production until the end of the 2023 model year.
But most importantly, deliveries of the first customer-owned Corvette Z06 have begun. One can expect some of those Z06s to hit the dynamometer soon, and the timing is now, courtesy of YouTubers Speed Phenomenon. Driving all the way to Dallas, one of the Corvette Z06’s first customers hit the dyno to check the real numbers a flat-crankshaft V8 engine could drop on the ground.

For the record, the Chevy Corvette Z06 packs up to 670 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and 460 pound-feet (624 Newton-meters) of torque at the crank. With the transmission and other mechanics used before hitting the ground, you can expect around 10-15 percent loss of power or around 600 hp at the wheels.
After three runs, the results were impressive. The first two that went above still believed in that calculation. With the dyno setting in SAE, the computer calculates about 597-600 hp at the wheels. Torque figures are also quite in accordance with the specification sheet.
However, the third round was impressive. After cooling down the engine, the Corvette Z06 recorded 610 hp at 8,400 RPM, all in fifth gear. That only represents about 9 percent power loss; either Chevy underestimates the Z06 or the Tremec-sourced 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox as equally efficient, but we’re counting on the former.
Manufacturers belittling their cars on spec sheets is not unheard of. Still, the more than 600 horses on wheels is impressive, considering they come from the naturally aspirated V8 inside the Detroit Ferrari.
