Audi Q7 Peeked Hides Second Facelift Brings New Headlights Front And Rear

It’s not uncommon for Audi to work on a second facelift for a car, but that seems to be the case with the Q7. This second-generation SUV premiered in early 2015 before getting a significant makeover some four years later. Well, it looks like the Ingolstadt-based automaker is working on another update for the luxobarge rather than transitioning the model into its third iteration. New spy shots show testing of a partially camouflaged prototype in Germany.

With Audi deciding to introduce only pure electric models from 2026, this effectively means there will be no third-generation Q7 with a combustion engine. This second facelift could remain on sale for several years before being replaced by an electric SUV. The E-Tron Q7 seems like a logical assumption considering that there was already an E-Tron Q8 and we know for a fact that a twin E-Tron Q6 with a Porsche Macan is coming. In fact, Four Rings is already using the Q7 E-Tron moniker to denote a plug-in hybrid model.

Spotted just days after our spies caught sight of the Q8’s facelift, the revised Q7 hides new headlights and taillights. We also noticed a new front grille with lots of double vertical fins and wide horizontal panels that can become active shutters. If so, they open when the engine needs extra cooling and close to improve aero and consequently improve efficiency.

The redesigned front bumper peeks through the camouflage while the regular exhaust shrouds at the back tell us that this isn’t the more attractive quad-pipe SQ7. Audi didn’t bother hiding the dashboard, suggesting the interior cabin will mostly carry over. However, that could change by the time the second facelift is officially revealed.

Since this is the first time our spies have seen a prototype, an official reveal is unlikely in the coming months. Audi may decide to debut the Q7’s second facelift later this year or in early 2024.
