Ora Lightning Cat Is A Weird But Awesome Family EV From China

There are so many different cats in the world. Leopards, jaguars, lions, tigers, pumas and many more – these beautiful animals inhabit various regions around the world. But in China, there is one more cat family and that is the Ora Cat range of electric vehicles. This funky looking car portfolio (it actually has Funky Cat as its model name) now also includes relatively large family vehicles.

The gallery below depicts the so-called Lightning Cats, which are the largest and most powerful Cats in Ora’s current range. Our friends and colleagues at Wheeled boy recently had the opportunity to drive a Lightning Cat in its performance trim and they were kind enough to share their exclusive photo gallery with us. Their video review of the electric vehicle is at the top of this page.

So, what is Lightning Cat? It’s a five-door electric vehicle with a polarizing design that mixes retro vibes with touches from luxury automakers like Porsche and Bentley. It doesn’t look bad from all angles and there are certain exterior details that we found interesting, such as the active rear spoiler and Bentley-style taillights. Inside, the atmosphere is quite comfortable with smooth brown leather and physical buttons for most of the functions on the dashboard.

In this performance version, the Lightning Cat comes with a two-motor electric powertrain featuring one electric motor for each axle. Combined system output is 408 horsepower (304 kilowatts) and 501 pound-feet (680 Newton-meters) of torque, which is enough for acceleration from 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) in just 4.3 seconds. The promised range on a single charge of the 83.5 kilowatt-hour battery is 373 miles (600 kilometers), but that’s measured by China’s CLTC cycles.

However, as the presenter of the video explains, it takes more than a lot of power for the car to be sporty. The Lightning Cat’s suspension simply can’t cope with the powerful powertrain even in the most hardcore of ride modes. Steering isn’t any better, which makes the vehicle better for comfortable cruising than aggressive cornering.
