BMW 5 Series 2024 Renders Imagine a Posh Wagon Based on Spy Shots

BMW may have a very high number of crossovers and SUVs in its portfolio, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to give up on the fine wagon. In fact, 2022 brought an expansion of the long-roof range with the launch of the first M3 Touring. Prior to 2025, Bavarians are expected to expand their offering with two derivatives based on the next-gen 5 Series Touring – the pure electric i5 and the high-performance M5.

Meanwhile, our friends at Motor. es have envisioned a standard 5 Series Tour based on recent spy shots of a camouflaged prototype. BMW isn’t going to rock the boat with the car’s exterior design as it will avoid placing the kidney grille too high or separating the daytime running lights from the main headlights. A sleeker, sharper exterior design is expected, perhaps with a hint of E60/E61 here and there.

Although the digital design exercise describes the M550i xDrive model, the next generation 5 Series may not have it anymore. There have been wild rumors claiming only the flagship M5 will be available with the V8, effectively ending the M550i. Logic tells us that an M Performance version will still be offered, though perhaps a plug-in hybrid (M560e?) to mirror the larger M760e with its inline-six. An electric i5 M60 also seems likely.

The interior will undergo major changes by switching to an iDrive 8/8.5 infotainment system with a 12.3-inch driver screen and 14.9-inch infotainment housed inside a slightly curved glass cover. The latter will swallow conventional climate control to simplify the center console in the same vein as we’ve seen in the most recent 3 Series and 7 Series facelifts.

BMW has confirmed a 5 Series Sedan (G60) will appear in 2023 alongside the i5. It is likely that a more practical body style will follow towards the end of the year or early 2024 along with a zero emission drop. The M5 Sedan (G90) and M5 Touring (G91) are rumored to be arriving late next year and there’s a good chance the United States will also get the speedy wagon.
