Super Mario Bros Movie Trailer Has a Mario Kart Easter Egg

The latest trailer for Super Mario Bros. Movies shows so much more than the first. We don’t only hear additional dialogue from Chris Pratt who voices Mario, but also dialogue from the main characters, such as Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. But Mario Kart the reference in the end is what piques interest Motor1.com team.

First little nod to Mario Kart it’s at 1:02 in the trailer. Princess Peach walks towards the camera wearing an outfit similar to the racing suit she can wear in games like Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8.

The sequence starting at 1:45 shows just that Mario Kart will play a bigger role in Super Mario Bros. Movies. Mario was driving his kart and stepped on the throttle. In the next shot, flames come out of the exhaust, and the plumber screams. He launched a ramp, and we saw that he was not alone. Peach is on his motorcycle. Toad is in a monster truck, and Donkey Kong has a rig with a barrel that acts as a jet engine.

As they landed, we noticed the familiar color scheme of the Rainbow Road trail. Plus, there are more characters driving vehicles behind them. It’s not clear from the trailer whether it’s Mario racing them or they’re all going to the same place.

As the final Easter Egg, Mario jumps over the kart, and it makes the iconic sound when he jumps. He finished it all off by exclaiming “Wa-hoo.” Look closely to see blue sparks shooting out of the rear wheels, as they would during a brief in-game slide.

It Super Mario Bros. Movies will be out on April 7, 2023, in the United States. Judging by the two trailers so far, it looks like the plot concerns Mario battling Bowser, which makes sense considering that’s also the game’s story.

In addition to Mario’s crew, characters from Donkey Kong the game world is also in the movie. Seth Rogen voices Donkey Kong, and Fred Armisen is Cranky Kong.
