CT5-V Blackwing Duels Challenger Hellcat In Face-Off V8 Supercharged

We all know that the new Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is special, and it’s not just because of the Blackwing badge. This is the most powerful Cadillac ever and each of the supercharged V8 engines used in this sedan is handcrafted.

Most importantly, the CT5-V Blackwing and CT4-V Blackwing were the last V-Series models to feature an internal combustion engine.

But how does the CT5-V Blackwing compare to other supercharged V8 cars on the market? Sam’s CarLegion pitted one against a Dodge Hellcat-powered muscle car to find out.

While the Charger Hellcat muscle sedan is a more obvious contender versus the CT5-V Blackwing on the grounds of having the same number of doors, the YouTuber here isn’t getting one in stock form. Instead, meeting the Blackwing in the lineup was the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

On paper, the two are almost on the same ground. The Challenger is slightly more powerful with an output of 717 horsepower (535 kilowatts) and 656 pound-feet (889 Newton-meters) of torque. However, it’s also significantly heavier at 4,436 pounds (2,012 kilograms).

Meanwhile, the Blackwing CT5-V produces up to 668 hp (498 kW) and nearly the same amount of torque, but only weighs 4,123 lbs (1,870 kg).

That said, it appears that the Hellcat’s power advantages were offset by its hog nature, but there was one key difference between the two that ultimately worked in Dodge’s favor: the transmission.

The Challenger SRT Hellcat comes with an automatic transmission, while the CT5-V has a manual transmission. In straight-line racing, modern automation has always had an advantage, regardless of the shifting techniques a driver may employ on MT.

Is that what happened with this fight? The video at the top of this page is for sure, so check it out.
