Skoda’s big debuts planned for the rest of the year will no doubt be the next-gen Superb and Kodiaq, both of which will launch this fall. Meanwhile, the Czech brand is getting nip and tuck ready for its Scala compact hatchback and Kamiq small crossover. The finale will be released a week from today, on August 1st. Until then, the new teaser images will showcase one of the most important changes that the facelift has brought.
Available at an additional cost, the 2024 Scala and Kamiq will be offered with matrix LED headlamps. It’s great to see the technology trickle down to smaller, cheaper cars, having been on the Karoq, Octavia, Kodiaq, Enyaq, and Superb for quite some time. At Scala, Skoda extended the headlamps to fill the grille and added daytime running light strips above and below the headlamps. The headlight corners also incorporate DRLs to provide a new light signature on the five-door hatch.
In Kamiq’s case, automaker Mladá Boleslav slimmed down a separate LED strip that sits over a set of new, slightly larger headlamps. Previous teasers had revealed the two would also undergo some taillight changes, but nothing to write home about. After all, this is only a mid-cycle update that comes roughly four years after the car was launched.
We don’t expect major changes inside as that would involve spending a lot of money that parent company Volkswagen Group prefers to invest in EVs. Since Scala and Kamiq use the MQB A0 platform, a mild hybrid powertrain is not planned for a facelift. We’ll have to wait and see if Skoda will continue to offer diesel engines or will opt to only offer the 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI units.
Skoda has promised to increase its share of EV sales in Europe to over 70 percent by the end of the decade, helped by the launch of six electric cars by 2026. With that in mind, we wouldn’t be betting on another generation of Scala and Kamiq, at least not the ICE.
